Accreditation Requirements
Eligibility & Personnel
- Operators must hold valid NAWA accreditation
- Staff handling animals must be trained and competent
- Training records must be documented and available
Animal Welfare Standards
- Animals unfit for travel must not be transported (except for veterinary care)
- Provide species-appropriate food, water, and rest
- Maintain safe stocking densities
- Protect animals from weather extremes during loading, transport, and unloading
Vehicles & Equipment
- Vehicles must be fit for purpose, ventilated, and safe
- All equipment must be maintained and operational
- Emergency plans must be documented for breakdowns, accidents, or animal health issues
Record-Keeping & Audits
- Maintain records of journeys, welfare checks, training, and audits
- Keep records for the required minimum period
- Pass regular audits and inspections to retain accreditation
